Learn: Our Presence

DIL was established in 1997 in Los Angeles with current offices in the Los Angeles area and Islamabad. DIL currently has chapters in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Washington, Houston, San Diego, Ottawa, Toronto, Karachi, London, and Singapore. YOUR DIL was founded in New York in 2005 by a group of young professionals and has seen rapid growth across the United States and across the world.

Current Chapters

YOUR DIL’s chapters are the backbone, and the heart and soul of YOUR DIL.  They help raise funds, promote the goals of YOUR DIL, spread awareness of the mission, and develop a base of volunteer support within a defined region. Each chapter has its own local chapter board and plans its own fundraising activities according to the interests of the local community.

YOUR DIL currently has chapters in the following cities:

Austin
Boston
Chicago
Detroit
Los Angeles
New York
San Francisco
Washington DC

Other active YOUR DIL chapters outside the US are based in the United Kingdom, Canada, and Pakistan.  If you are interested in starting a chapter in your city, please email us at development@yourdil.org.

College Effort

YOUR DIL has also recently launched a college effort with the first “chapter” established at Baylor University. Other recent collaborative projects have been completed with Rutgers University as well as University of Connecticut.

In 2007, Leah Awan the acting service chair for ISSA at Baylor University, founded the first YOUR DIL College Chapter at Baylor University. Through YOUR DIL, the Baylor community has come together to advance the fight against illiteracy.

The Indian Subcontinent Student Association is a student run organization whose goal is to provide Baylor University students the opportunity to experience Indian Subcontinent culture and to perform community service. In 2004, ISSA first adopted DIL for its commitment to the fight against illiteracy by providing quality education aimed at not only changing the futures of young lives, but also shaping entire communities. Since that time, ISSA has held annual fundraisers for YOUR DIL.

Thanks to all the support ISSA received, the First Annual ISSA Masquerade Dinner and Ball was awarded “Best New Program of the Year” by Baylor University Student Actives. With many more years to come, YOUR DIL and ISSA hope to continue to build bridges as ambassadors for the fight against literacy.
